Thanosshirt – Ask me for my card im a mobile notary Vintage T-Shirt
Maybe I’m more sensitive to vaccine judgment than I would be if I hadn’t recently received my first Pfizer dose, but seeing people whisper about how so-and-so qualified for the shot is a sad reminder that many Americans’ moralistic views of health care come from a place of scarcity. If we were truly able to trust that our government had our best interests at heart when it came to the COVID-19 response, would we be so quick to evaluate and scorn one another? If we lived in a country where health care was guaranteed to all, would we still worry about resources being unfairly hoarded?
If there’s anything the last year of loss and grief should have instilled in us, it’s a sense of increased empathy. (After all, what is mutual aid if not an acknowledgment that the people around us need more care than they’re currently getting?) As more and more people become vaccine-eligible in the coming months, I genuinely hope we can all hit “pause” on our knee-jerk judgments and actually do the work to pry our often unconsciously internalized notions about health, morality, and worth apart from our COVID-19 response.
